Wooden Coffee Tables – Modern and Stylish

Now more than ever, consumers have their choice from a veritable buffet of stylistic options of wooden coffee tables, the most popular material when it comes to this piece of furniture. Intricate carvings dominate some of the tables while some are rather plain and having the least embellishments. Antique shops often have a large variety of this type of piece, even though historically they have not been around for very long.
Wooden coffee tables take on different looks according to the materials and stains they are made from. The variety of stains provides the tables with a different look. Mahogany remains a great favorite in making these tables along with oak. However, the favorite remains oak, which is the strongest and most durable among the lot. Glass can be added to improve the look, but the base will be made of wood.
Shape is one of the main ways in which wooden coffee tables differ. While the tables of yesteryears were low in height and rectangular in shape, they were just the right height to be placed alongside a couch. The present day coffee tables are however of every possible shape. Some still conform to the rectangular look but have different shapes arising from them like cutaways to store magazines and books and many more combinations. Some coffee tables are round, and some are square. the one thing that they all seem to have in common is height, as that is the only distinguishable feature that defines a piece of furniture as a coffee or cocktail table.
