Major mold, condensation, and wall issues?

We bought our house about 7 years ago, and its about 47 years overall. Every winter and fall, the condensation gets real bad. I had my bed up against my wall, and now the mattress and bozspring have brown spots from water damage. Every morning its cold and the walls are wet. There is mold on my ceilings too. Help! Btw, the realotor, who is also my aunt, obviously never inspected the house for water issues! Again, help!!!

ouch! i would hate to see your heating and cooling bills. now let's move on. if you have visible mold, you also have mold in the walls. there are many, MANY ways to approach this issue. they are all time consuming, messy, and require a good dry wall guy, like me. it can require anything from bleaching and drying using big fans to replacing all the drywall, (we don't want to use that option). some times you can simply patch in for rotten dry wall. it's kind of a "let's see what we got..." deal.

BUT, at the very least, we have to install new 2X paned windows. then we need to consider your insulation, both in the attic and in the walls.

regardless, these are serious issues that need to be addressed asap. not only is your home infested with mold, which can in fact cause some health issues, but also, the energy efficiency of the dwelling is horrible. you are burning up money every month in that old leaky house. don't panic and take it one issue at a time. i would start with the windows and then dry out inside the walls as well as use bleach to kill as much visible mold as possible. in your case, i think i can safely say the needed repairs will in fact pay for themselves in energy savings within a very few years. also, you will need to seal the old dry wall with a sealer such as "kilz" and re paint.
