Wall Bed Headboard

I am renting a partly furnished apt. The bedroom has yellow walls, bed with black headboard, black sidetables

I need help selecting the right color combo from here. I have to keep the bed and side tables and cannot repaint. In fact I like the yellow walls. I have a lovely navy blue rug with burgandy and cream designs. I wanted to put that near the bed but that wont tie the look together. In fact I am not even sure about yellow going with black. I am stuck with this decor. The curtains are lovely golden yellow but again I wish I could change something. The max I can do for this room now is get 2 lamps and a computer table with chair.
I need help.

The room sounds decidedly masculine and I think you want to change that.
I’d start with the windows. Get sheer pastel green curtains to put behind the yellow drapes. You can use a tension rod in the window – you will not have to make any holes. If you can get or make tiebacks for the yellow curtains in burgundy/yellow/green or any combination thereof. You could even use tiebacks in black/green/and a color in the carpet.
You will start to bring the room together with what you already have.
I would get throw pillows for the bed in a burgundy/blue/green/yellow/orange/cream (or any combination of those) print but not plaid or anything masculine. None of the pillows should match but they should all have at least three of the same colors in them. Keep the sheets light, pastel and pick up a color in the rug.
I think adding light wood, like the computer table and chair. Maybe the lamps should be the color of light wood with black shades.

Another two colors that will go well with what you have – is to buy bowls, vases, art glass or even throw pillows in a terra cotta color and/or turquoise.

Lavender or lilac is another direction you can go in. Get pale lilac sheers with black/lilac/cream tiebacks. Light wood lamps with navy shades.
Pastel lilac sheets or stick with white or cream.
You can make your life simple and just use white and/or cream sheers, sheets, and lamp shades. And get throw pillows for the bed that pick up the colors in the rug. And a large abstract poster or painting (that you can paint yourself) for over the bed that picks up the colors in the rug and put a line, splotch, squiggly, whatever in yellow. Just to add a little bit of one color from the walls or curtains.

Hope that gave you some ideas and not just confused you and made you think, “What the hell is he thinking?”

If none of this helps and you have access to a library or bookstore, look in the decorator magazines. You will inevitably find your colors mixed with SOMETHING. The possibilities are endless.
