Murphy Sofa beds

Are the infamous "Murphy beds" as comfortable to sleep in as conventional ones?

Looking to convert a spare bedroom into more of a den/guest room and am considering using a Murphy bed. They're a great use of space but are they really as comfortable as a conventional bed or are they like those nasty sleeper sofas?
