Redecorating a teen girl's bedroom?HELP PLEASE!!!!!?
Ok, I am redecorating my bedroom. I've never painted the walls, and I am going to buy new bedspread and furniture that match the walls and the rest of the room. Few questions:
1. Are Polka dots and stripes painted on walls"in" for teens?
2. If my walls had polkadots and stripes on them, would it be to much if my bedspread to have dots/stripes on it?
3.I was thinking if i do paint polkadots and stripes, here is what i would do:
on the wall my bed goes on(the main focus of the room) i will paint polka dots. on the other walls,I wanted to make a faux chair molding by painting stripes 1/3 up the way of the wall. and a long stripe horizontally on top of the vertical stripes. Would that work as a "faux" chair molding? or should i just leave out the horizontal stripe?
4.Is using a stencil the best way for polkadots?
I'll try taking the polkadots and stripes into my bathroom, and paint the clotes a solid color ![]()
not clotes, closet.
From what I've read polka dots and stripes (separately) are definitely a trend.
I see no reason you can't mix the two if it's done correctly.
I would not make ALL the walls have a pattern. I think painting the wall behind your bed polka dot is a cool idea. (I read something about a "graphic painter?" no idea what that is?) I think there's things out there that are easier than stencils for polka dots...
One of the keys to mixing patters is that they eye needs a place to "rest"...there needs to be a neutral area within the patterened room. ..so you need plain solid color somewhere..but, if you have let's say two polka dot walls opposite each other...and you are only doing stripes on the bottom half of the other two opposite wall..then your eyes have a resting place on the top half of the opposite striped walls..
just a brief picture in my brain right now..nah..okay..think I don't like it but I'll share it..two walls opposite top half polka dot, and bottom half solid...then the opposite two walls bottom half stripes and top half solid....that would be interesting. ..(i'm not suggeting it the vision just popped in my brain...)
Another key is to also provide some connectivity...whether it's color, shape, vases, wall hangings, whatever...just little "hints" I would call them that aren't obvious but they subtly connect the two patterns together..
Hmmm I'm thinking if your wall behind your bed is polka dot,,then maybe have a bedspread that has stripes...I'm thinking the polka dot wall with polka dot bedspread would be overwhelming in the one area if the other area is striped..and things would be off balanced..too heavy on one side and too light on the other...
Don't underestimate the power of using the ceiling to tie things together either..
i found this pic (my daughter's looking at rooms...) with a polka dot wall...and she has a solid bedcover but tiny stripes at the bottom of the bedcover...(i'm sure it's not as sophisticated as you're planning..but it shows the polka dot/stripe combination in the wall/bedspread...)

Just stumbled on this..if this link doesn't work, click english, then image collection..the first one was triped walls (or whatever they are) and a small polka dot ) couch (very modern)..
http://www.missonihome.com/
You know what..definitely go take a look cause they mix more stuff...i mean it's way more crisp and modern..but you can see how they mix the two...the second picture had large polka dots on the blanket...and smaller stripes in other places..then there's a pic that has stripes and poka dots on the bed..these are all black and white (which I wouldn't want in a bedroom) but you can easily do this real bright with lots of colors...so visit that website and look at the image collection!
Have fun!!!
Edit again: try this link lots of polka dots..
